Guns & Hoses 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run

Together with the Sheriff’s Office and County Fire Department CRPA will host its 6th annual Guns and Hoses 5K. This year we are also adding a 1 mile fun run. $5 of each runner’s registration will be donated to raise money for the Hope and Light Foundation in honor of Aleena Miller. Aleena lost her battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy in October 2011. Moisture-Wicking shirts will be available in your race packet. Shirt size selections are guaranteed for ONLY those registering by February 3. The cost is $25 advanced registration (now until February 3) and $30 late registration (starting February 4-race day). Non-Stop Action Camp

This camp for 6-12 year olds will be spent traveling to different locations to experience excitement, laughter and camaraderie. The cost is $120/child. Children will need a lunch, two snacks and drinks daily. Children can bring extra money for games or snacks on trips!

Woodstock Now Accepting Applications for 2012 Citizens Police Academy

The Woodstock Police Department is now accepting applications through March 16th for the Spring 2012 Citizens Police Academy, which is scheduled to begin on April 11, 2012.
The Woodstock Police Department is offering the Citizens Police Academy, which is a series of training classes offered, in an effort to strengthen the bond, friendship, and cooperation between citizens and law enforcement. It will also help citizens gain a better understanding of the risk and responsibilities of officers. Some of the classes offered in this series are: DUI/ Traffic Stops, Crime Scene Processing, Crime Prevention, Narcotics, and K-9 demonstrations. These classes are taught by officers from the Woodstock Police Department.

The Citizens Police Academy will be held at the Magnolia Community Center, every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., for eight weeks beginning on April 11th.

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION – February 17, 2012

This Arbor Day, the City of Woodstock will be giving away 750 seedlings on a first come, first serve basis. These include Dogwood, Crape Myrtle, Red Maple, and Southern Magnolia. A booklet with very important tree care information will also be available for free. This includes caring for and planting trees, pruning existing trees, and current water restrictions. These can be picked up at the City Hall Annex, Magnolia Hall, William G. Long Senior Center, and the Deans Store.

Wiffle Ball Winter Classic

VOLUNTEER AGING COUNCIL

  • The next VAC Orientation will be held on Monday, February 6th from 9-10:30am at Southeast Restoration, 120 Mountain Brook Drive in Canton, right off Highway 5, (770) 345-3500.  All are invited to attend and learn firsthand about the mission and programs of the VAC.  (We’re using this location while the Senior Center undergoes renovation.)
  • Friday, February 10th from 11am-2pm The Lodge at BridgeMill will provide a $5 Winter Soup Social to Benefit the VAC at their facility at 10451 Bells Ferry Road in Canton.  RSVP if you can to Debbie McAdory at (770) 479-4639 or debbie.mcadory@thelodgeatbridgemill.com.  It’s the best lunch deal in town, you’ll have your some wonderful warm soups, and all proceeds go the VAC so bring a friend, co-worker or family member along to join you for this great cause.
  • It’s seems like a long way off, but Save the Date and polish up your dancing shoes for the VAC’s 2012 VAC Gala and Auction.  It’s our biggest and most fun fundraiser of the year, and it will be held on Saturday, August 25th at 6pm at the Bluffs Conference Center.

Beginniner Fencing Starts

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of swordplay? Try fencing with the Cherokee Fencing Club. The beginner class is Mondays or Wednesdays for $130. Beginners will learn footwork, drills, games and actual bouting. Once the beginner class is completed participants can move onto Advanced and Competitive monthly classes.

Adult Basketball Registration Begins

Jan, 30th, 2012 9:00 AM to Mar, 9th, 2012 5:00 PM

The spring season is $475/team and will consist of eight games. Games are played at the Recreation Center and the leagues are Monday “A” and Tuesday “B”. The season begins the week of April 9.
